UI/UX Case Study
Overview
Picture Jesus With Us is an app concept that was brought to our team in an effort to enhance and build on the current PJWU brand. The goals of the project were to provide a more robust back-end solution, while providing a clean & visually engaging design.
Targeted Users
PJWU’s primary demographic is young-adults to middle aged individuals. One of the primary goals for the project is to offer an intuitive design, with a robust back-end to provide a seamless user experience that will attract more users.

My Role & Responsibilities
Lead Designer – collaborated with team members to strategize back-end solutions regarding API creation & Data Imports. Designed user-flows, wireframes, and hi-fidelity prototypes for all mobile application screens.
The Problem
PJWU had an existing product that needed a visual update along with a more robust back-end solution. After determining an API solution we performed a competitive analysis of 3 existing apps, and mapped out user-flow & function in a low-fidelity mockup.
The Challenge
The goals were two-fold. To update the visual design to more adequately represent PJWU’s existing brand, and provide a more intuitive user-experience that would attract a wide variety of users.
The Strategy
To help onboard new users we created a simple dashboard that funneled all user-actions into 2 selections. From here the user would begin the process of creating their artwork; editing their image, adding bible verses or custom stickers and then sharing the artwork to their desired platforms.
The Result
PJWU was happy with the updated visual design, as well as the new API integration. The updates provided an intuitive user-flow, and added a more robust image enhancement solution for the app.
Lessons Learned
When it comes to app design simplicity is key. In this particular project working as a team to ensure that our chosen API met the needs of the client was no simple task. This was especially important, as we were adding custom libraries and functionality from an already existing design.
Strong communication is essential when it comes to making informed decisions. Providing app users with the best possible experience, while ensuring these decisions could be made possible by our back-end developers, was a challenging task – and proved the importance of good communication and workflow.
